Overview

ToolTally ("the App") is a free, ad-supported Android application for tradespeople. It is a tool inventory and record keeper with a set of on-site utilities. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you use it. ToolTally is designed to be private and offline-first: your tool records, photos and insurance notes stay on your device.

Information We Collect

ToolTally does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information about you.

We do not require you to create an account, log in, or provide any personal details to use the App.

Everything you create in the App — your tools and their details, brand and model, serial numbers, purchase dates and prices, your own estimated values, condition, location, warranty dates, per-tool insurance notes (insurer, policy number, renewal date, sum insured and excess), status changes, and any photos you add — is stored only on your device, in a local database (SQLite) and local files. This content is never uploaded to us or to any server, and there is no cloud sync or backup of any kind. Because this data stays on your device, uninstalling the App permanently removes it.

Camera and Photos

You can add photos to a tool, and the on-site "Camera measure" utility uses the camera to estimate distance and area. Photos are taken with your camera only when you decide to add one, and they are copied into the App's own storage on your device. When you choose an existing photo, the App uses your device's system photo picker, which does not require the App to hold a broad photo-library permission.

Photos and camera frames are used entirely on your device. They are never uploaded to us or to any third party, and are only ever shared if you choose to share or export them yourself. A clear, prominent explanation is shown in the App before the camera is used for the first time.

Warranty Reminders and Notifications

The App can schedule local reminders before a tool's warranty expires. These reminders are created and delivered entirely on your device using Android's local notification system. No reminder data is sent off the device. The App also re-registers your scheduled reminders after the device restarts. You can turn reminders off per tool or through your device's notification settings.

Insurance Claim Pack

The App can build an "Insurance Claim Pack" — a single ZIP file containing a formatted PDF, a spreadsheet-friendly CSV and the photos for the tools you choose — so you can hand your insurer a complete record to support a claim or a quote. The pack is a personal inventory record that you compile yourself. It is not an insurance policy, a professional valuation, or proof of cover, and the App does not provide or arrange insurance. Claim Packs are created only at your request, saved to the App's temporary storage, and shared only through the method you choose using your device's standard share sheet. We do not receive or store your Claim Packs.

Backup and Restore

The App can back up your tool library to a file and restore it from one you select. Backups are created only at your request and are saved or shared only through the method you choose, using your device's standard share sheet. We do not receive or store your backups.

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services, each of which has its own privacy policy:

Google AdMob

The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob — a banner on the screens, an interstitial when you open a Bonus Toolbox utility, and optional rewarded videos that open a temporary Premium window. As part of ad delivery, AdMob may collect and use information such as:

  • Device identifiers (Android Advertising ID)
  • IP address
  • Ad interaction and usage data (views, clicks)

Advertising and Consent

Ads may use device identifiers (including the advertising ID) to provide relevant advertising. Where required (for example, for users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), the App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request consent before serving personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time, and you can opt out of personalised advertising through your device settings under Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalisation.

Permissions Used

  • Network access (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) — to display ads through Google AdMob. The App has no other online features.
  • Camera (CAMERA) — only when you choose to take a photo of a tool, or use the on-site Camera measure utility, as described above.
  • Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — to show warranty-expiry reminders and to re-register them after the device restarts.

Choosing an existing photo uses the system photo picker and does not require a separate photo-library permission. The App does not request location, contacts, or microphone permissions. The on-site metal/stud detector reads the device's magnetometer, which does not require a runtime permission.

Log Data

In the event of an error, the App may collect diagnostic data ("Log Data") through third-party services. This Log Data may include your device name, operating system version, the configuration of the App, the time and date of use, and other statistics.

Links to Other Sites

The App may contain links to external websites. These external sites are not operated by us, and we advise you to review their privacy policies. We have no control over the content or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Children's Privacy

The App is intended for a general, adult trade audience and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it immediately.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date. You are advised to review this page periodically.
