Tintbox Privacy Policy

Tintbox ("the App") is a free, ad-supported application for generating, checking and exporting colour palettes. This page explains how the App handles information when you use it. Tintbox is designed to be private and offline-first: your palettes and photos stay on your device.

Information Collection And Use

The App does not require an account, a login, or any personal details to use. We do not collect, store, or transmit personally identifiable information about you.

Everything you create in the App - your saved palettes, their colours and names, and any photos you use - is stored only on your device, in a local database (SQLite) and local files. This content is never uploaded to us or to any server, and there is no cloud sync or backup of any kind. Because this data stays on your device, uninstalling the App permanently removes it.

Camera And Photos

You can build a palette from a photo. Photos are taken with your camera or chosen from your gallery only when you decide to add one, and they are copied into the App's own storage on your device. Photos are analysed entirely on your device to pick out their colours (dominant-colour extraction and the eyedropper tool). They are never uploaded to us or to any third party, and are only ever shared if you choose to share or back them up yourself. A clear, prominent explanation is shown in the App before the camera is used for the first time. Choosing an existing photo uses your device's system photo picker, which does not require the App to hold a broad photo-library permission.

Backup And Restore

The App can back up your palette library to a ZIP file. Backups are created only at your request and are saved or shared only through the method you choose, using your device's standard share sheet. Restoring reads a ZIP you select. We do not receive or store your backups.

Third-party Services

The App uses the following third-party services that may collect information:

Google AdMob - used to display advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers (including the advertising ID), IP address, and usage data to serve personalised or non-personalised ads. See Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy Google Play Services - required for advertising and core functionality on Android devices. See: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Advertising And Consent

The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob, including a banner, an occasional interstitial when you open the Packs browser, and optional rewarded videos that unlock extra export formats and palette packs. Ads may use device identifiers (including the advertising ID) to provide relevant advertising. Where required (for example, for users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), the App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request consent before serving personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time, and you can opt out of personalised advertising through your device settings under Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalisation.

Permissions Used

Network access - to display ads through Google AdMob; the App has no other online features. Camera - only when you choose to take a photo to extract colours from, as described above. Choosing an existing photo uses the system photo picker and does not require a separate photo-library permission. The App does not request location, contacts, or microphone permissions.

Log Data

In the event of an error, the App may collect diagnostic data ("Log Data") through third-party services. This Log Data may include your device name, operating system version, the configuration of the App, the time and date of use, and other statistics.

Links To Other Sites

The App may contain links to external websites. These external sites are not operated by us, and we advise you to review their privacy policies. We have no control over the content or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Children's Privacy

The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it immediately.

Changes To This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. You are advised to review this page periodically.
