SunCents Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 October 2026
SunCents ("the App") is a free, ad-supported Android application that estimates what a solar installation would save, and tracks how an installed system is paying back. This page explains how the App handles information when you use it. SunCents has no account and no server of its own: what you enter stays on your device.
Information Collection And Use
The App does not require an account, a login, or any personal details to use. We do not collect, store, or receive personally identifiable information about you.
Everything you enter or the App records - your place, roof, household use, power plans, bills, imported meter readings, system details, scenarios, quotes and settings - is stored only on your device, in a local database (SQLite) and the App's settings. It is never uploaded to us, and there is no cloud sync, no account and no server-side copy of any kind. Uninstalling the App permanently removes it.
Your Place And The Online Services The App Uses
The App never reads your device's location and does not request the location permission. You type a place instead. To turn what you type into map coordinates, the App uses your device's built-in geocoder; on Android this is provided by Google, which receives the text you typed.
The App then sends those coordinates, rounded, to public services to fetch sun and weather data:
- PVGIS, run by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, for a typical year of sunshine (coordinates rounded to about 5 km). See: https://joint-research-centre.ec.europa.eu/photovoltaic-geographical-information-system-pvgis_en
- NASA POWER, for long-term sunshine averages when PVGIS has no answer (coordinates rounded to about 5 km). See: https://power.larc.nasa.gov
- MET Norway's Locationforecast, for the solar forecast (coordinates rounded to 0.05 degrees, about 5 km). See: https://api.met.no/doc/TermsOfService
These requests carry the rounded coordinates and the App's name and version, and nothing else about you. Like any internet request, they also show the service your IP address. The answers are kept on your device so the same place is not fetched again.
In Australia, the App can look up your power retailer's published plans from Energy Made Easy (the Australian Energy Regulator's Consumer Data Right service). It downloads the retailer's list of plans; your postcode is matched on your device and is not sent.
Bills, Photos And Files
You can add a bill by typing it, or by choosing a PDF or taking or choosing a photo. Bills are read on your device, using Google ML Kit text recognition for photos. Photos and files are never uploaded. The App can also import meter and inverter files you choose (spreadsheets, CSV and smart meter files); they are read on your device and only the readings and the file name are kept.
Your Solar System At Home
If you have a Sigenergy or Fronius system, the App can show its live readings. It connects only to that system's own gateway on your home network, and only reads: it never changes a setting. These readings do not leave your network.
Reports And Email
PDF reports and sample files are created only when you ask, and are saved or shared only through the method you choose, using your device's share sheet. We do not receive them. "Email us" opens your own email app with a message addressed to us; nothing is sent unless you send it, and what it holds is what you see in your email app.
Third-party Services
The App uses the following third-party services that may collect information:
- Google AdMob - used to display advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers (including the advertising ID), IP address, and ad interaction data to serve personalised or non-personalised ads. See Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Google Play Services - required for advertising, the geocoder and on-device text recognition on Android devices. See: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Google ML Kit text recognition - reads bill photos on your device. See: https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/terms
The sun and weather services named above receive only rounded coordinates, as described.
Advertising And Consent
The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob: a banner, a full-screen ad after you save an import or a scenario, and optional rewarded videos that open some tools and stop full-screen ads for the rest of the session. Ads may use device identifiers (including the advertising ID) to provide relevant advertising. Your place, bills and readings are never sent to ad networks. Where required (for example, for users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), the App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request consent before serving personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time, and you can opt out of personalised advertising through your device settings under Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalisation.
Permissions Used
Network access (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) - to load ads, fetch sun data, forecasts and Australian plans, and read your own solar system on your home network. Camera (CAMERA) - only when you choose to photograph a bill. The App does not request location, microphone, contacts, calendar, storage or notification permissions.
Log Data
In the event of an error, the App may collect diagnostic data ("Log Data") through third-party services. This Log Data may include your device name, operating system version, the configuration of the App, the time and date of use, and other statistics.
Links To Other Sites
This policy links to external websites. These external sites are not operated by us, and we advise you to review their privacy policies. We have no control over the content or practices of any third-party sites or services.
Children's Privacy
The App is intended for adults deciding about or running a home solar system, and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it immediately.
Changes To This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. You are advised to review this page periodically.
