Home Asset Manager Privacy Policy

Home Asset Manager ("the App") is a free, ad-supported Android application for keeping a private record of the contents of your home - an inventory of what you own, with photos, values, warranties, maintenance jobs and insurance details, plus a set of DIY tools. This page explains how the App handles information when you use it. Home Asset Manager is offline-first by design: it has no account, no server and no cloud, and everything you record stays on your device.

Information Collection And Use

The App does not require an account, a login, or any personal details to use. We do not collect, store, or transmit personally identifiable information about you.

Everything you create in the App - your properties, rooms, items and containers, brands and models, serial numbers, barcodes, purchase dates and prices, replacement values, condition, quantity and notes, moving boxes and their labels, warranty dates, maintenance jobs and their service history, lending records, insurance details (insurer, policy number, renewal date, sum insured and excess), item status, and every photo you add - is stored only on your device, in a local database (SQLite) and local files. There is no cloud sync, no online account and no server-side copy of any kind, because there is no server. Because this data stays on your device, uninstalling the App permanently removes it.

The App has no analytics, no crash-reporting service and no telemetry of its own. It makes no network requests other than those made by Google's advertising and consent components described below.

Camera And Photos

You can add photos to an item, scan a barcode or a box label, and photograph an appliance nameplate so its make, model and serial number can be filled in for you. Photos are taken with the camera only when you choose to take one, and they are copied into the App's own private storage on your device. Choosing an existing photo uses your device's system photo picker, which does not require the App to hold a broad photo-library permission. Photos are stored at full resolution and are never downscaled behind your back.

Photos, camera frames and the text recognised from a nameplate are handled entirely on your device. Text recognition runs on-device and does not send the image anywhere. None of this is uploaded to us or to any third party, and it is shared only if you choose to share or export it yourself. A clear explanation is shown in the App before the camera is used for the first time.

Reminders And Notifications

The App can schedule local reminders for a warranty that is about to expire, a maintenance job that is falling due, an item you have lent out that is due back, and a monthly nudge to take a fresh copy of your records. A lending reminder is only scheduled if you set a due-back date, fires once two days beforehand, and names the item and the person who has it; an open-ended loan with no date is never chased. These reminders are created and delivered entirely on your device using Android's local notification system, and are re-registered after the device restarts. No reminder data is sent off the device.

The Home File Export, Backup And Restore

The App can build a Home File - a ZIP containing a formatted PDF, a spreadsheet-friendly CSV and your photos - for the whole home, a single room, one container, or only the items marked lost or stolen. It can also create a full backup ZIP of the database and every photo, and restore it later. Both are created only when you ask for them, are written to storage on your device, and are handed to your device's own share sheet so that you choose where they go. We never receive, see or store your exports or your backups.

A Home File is a personal record you compile yourself. It is not an insurance policy, a professional valuation, or proof of cover, and the App does not provide or arrange insurance.

Third-party Services

The App uses the following third-party services, which may collect information:

Google AdMob - used to display advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers (including the advertising ID), IP address, and ad interaction and usage data in order to serve and measure personalised or non-personalised ads. See Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy Google User Messaging Platform - used to ask for and record your advertising consent where the law requires it. See: https://policies.google.com/privacy Google Play Services - required for advertising and for core functionality on Android devices. See: https://policies.google.com/privacy

These are the only components in the App that communicate over the internet.

Advertising And Consent

The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob: a banner at the bottom of the screen, a full-screen ad when you open a DIY tool, open the backup and export screen, add a maintenance job, scan a serial label or set a warranty, and optional rewarded videos that switch the full-screen ads off for 24 hours. Ads may use device identifiers (including the advertising ID) to provide relevant advertising. Where required (for example, for users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), the App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request consent before serving personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time, and you can opt out of personalised advertising through your device settings under Google, Ads, Opt out of Ads Personalisation.

Permissions Used

Network access (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) - to display ads through Google AdMob and to ask for advertising consent. The App has no other online features. Camera (CAMERA) - only when you choose to take a photo of an item, scan a barcode or box label, or scan an appliance nameplate. Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) - to deliver warranty, maintenance, lending due-back and backup reminders, and to re-register them after a restart. Choosing an existing photo uses the system photo picker and does not require a separate photo-library permission. The App does not request location, contacts, microphone or external storage permissions; the stud and metal finder reads the device's magnetometer and the level reads its motion sensors, neither of which needs a runtime permission.

Log Data

The App itself records no diagnostic or usage data and sends none anywhere. In the course of serving ads, Google's advertising components may receive standard technical information such as your device model, operating system version, IP address and the time of use, as described in Google's privacy policy.

Links To Other Sites

The App may contain links to external websites. These external sites are not operated by us, and we advise you to review their privacy policies. We have no control over the content or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Children's Privacy

The App is intended for a general adult audience of homeowners and renters, and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it immediately.

Changes To This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. You are advised to review this page periodically.
