AquariumMate Privacy Policy

AquariumMate ("the App") is provided as a free, ad-supported application. This page is used to inform users regarding our policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of information.

INFORMATION COLLECTION AND USE The App does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information from its users. We do not require you to create an account or provide any personal data to use the App.

All content you create in the App — including your tanks, fish, plants, water tests, maintenance tasks, breeding and expense logs, photos, and notes — is stored only on your device in a local database. We do not have access to this data, and it is not uploaded to us or to any server.

CAMERA AND PHOTOS The App requests camera permission and access to your photo library so that you can:

Take or choose photos of your tanks, fish, and plants, and Use the optional Visual Water Check feature, which analyses a photo of your aquarium. Any photos you add are stored locally on your device alongside your other App data. Photos used for the Visual Water Check are analysed entirely on your device — they are not uploaded to us or to any third party. Photos are only ever shared if you choose to do so yourself (for example, via the backup feature described below).

BACKUP AND DATA SHARING The App includes an optional backup feature that creates a file containing your database and photos. This file is created at your request and is shared only through the method you choose (for example, saving to your device, cloud storage, or email) using your device's standard share sheet. We do not receive or store your backups.

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES The App uses the following third-party services that may collect information:

Google AdMob — used to display advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers (including the advertising ID), IP address, and usage data to serve personalised or non-personalised ads. See Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy Google Play Services — required for advertising and core functionality on Android devices. See: https://policies.google.com/privacy Wikipedia / Wikimedia Foundation — when you view a species in the built-in encyclopedia, the App may request a short description and image from Wikipedia. This sends the species name and standard request information (such as your IP address) to the Wikimedia servers. The App does not send any of your personal aquarium data to Wikipedia. See the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy: https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Privacy_policy ADVERTISING AND CONSENT The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob. These ads may use cookies or device identifiers (including the advertising ID) to provide relevant advertising.

Where required (for example, for users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), the App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request consent before serving personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time, and you can opt out of personalised advertising through your device settings under Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalisation.

PERMISSIONS USED Internet / Network access — to display ads and to retrieve species descriptions and images from Wikipedia. Camera — to take photos of your aquarium, livestock, and for the Visual Water Check. Advertising ID — used by Google AdMob for advertising, as described above. The App does not request location, contacts, microphone, or external storage permissions.

LOG DATA In the event of an error, the App may collect diagnostic data ("Log Data") through third-party services. This Log Data may include your device name, operating system version, the configuration of the App, the time and date of use, and other statistics.

LINKS TO OTHER SITES The App may contain links to external websites (for example, "Read more on Wikipedia"). These external sites are not operated by us, and we strongly advise you to review their privacy policies. We have no control over the content or practices of any third-party sites or services.

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY The App is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it immediately.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. You are advised to review this page periodically.
